Arholma
THE ISLAND WHICH HAS GIVEN ARHOLMAVALSEN its name has become the Roslag archipelago's most popular tourist destination. It's not surprising - here genuine culture is preserved - with manor houses, chapels, dance pavilions, country shops and a small boats harbour. From its famous beacon, the view out over the Ålands Sea is captivating. Nowadays it is also possible to visit Batteri Arholma, the once secret fort, now a Cold War museum, which is situated on the island's northern promontory. There are two popular youth hostels on the island, Arholma Nord and the STF-affiliated Bull-August Manor.
The two hour stop is long enough for a tour of the island and its flowering country landscape. Before the boat turns back towards Stockholm, maybe you'll be tempted to a refreshing dip in the Baltic Sea. On Saturdays and Sundays the trip through the outer archipelago is even more beautiful as the boat goes via Kudoxa and Rödlöga.
