Västan
Västan is the oldest vessel in the Waxholm Company and our fleet. It was built at the Motala Workshop in 1900 as 'Nya Svartsjölandet'. Up until 1937 she was used around Mälaren and delivered vegetables every morning from the Mälarö islands to the market traders at Munkbron. In 1937 the vessel was purchased by the Waxholm Company and renamed Västan, in the 1950s she was modernized and got, amongst other things, a new diesel engine instead of a steam engine. Two years ago, the Waxholm Company's board of directors decided that she will be completely renovated under the coming years, so that she will continue to sail out into the archipelago for many years to come.
Västan retains much of her old-world charm and is a very pleasant boat for smaller groups to hire.
