Music on Board
The steamboat Blidösund is Stockholm's music boat! The season starts at the beginning of May and ends, after over 100 cruises, at the end of October.
Most cruises depart from the Castle at 6:30 pm and return to the quay by 10:15 pm. Sometimes, Blidösund goes on tour. That is when we dock all round the Stockholm area as well as at towns and islands in the vicinity of the capital.
The music boat Blidösund offers a variety of different music and artists, including jazz, folk music, pop, blues, soul and rock. We mix old with new, artists that have been performing for over 25 years with some newer faces. We want to be a music venue for all of Stockholm and also for guests from outside of the city. Blidösund is an unusual music venue; the musicians play on the aft deck, at the rear of the main deck, in other words, neither in the dining rooms on the upper deck nor the lounges. The musicians always play two sets with a break of an hour inbetween. Guests who dine in one of the evening seatings can, during other parts of the journey, enjoy the music on the aft deck or simply sit out on one of the spacious decks and enjoy the sunset. The music can be heard over the loudspeakers throughout the boat.
The journey
The journey usually follows a route to Vaxholm via Velamsund or through Skurusundet. Also possible is that Blidösund goes around Södermalm and into Mälaren in order to pass by Drottningholm Castle and then turn back through the Hammarby lock to Skeppsbron, where the cruise ends at 10.15pm.
From the middle of September, when it starts to get dark in the evenings, we stay in Stockholm waters. We go through the locks into Mälaren and cruise round islands and under bridges which you wouldn't have known existed! A beautiful spectacle to be enjoyed under a warm blanket, out on deck!
