Museum
Siarö fort is strategically situated on Kyrkogårdsön in the middle of the Furusunds trail. It started to be built during the First World War, as a part of a modernisation and rethinking of Sweden's defences. The fort has been abandoned since the 1960s, but has now been restored to its former glory and now welcomes visitors.
The museum offers fascinating insights into the coastal defences of years gone by with, for example, cannons and parapets and everything from command centres to kitchen and barracks encased underground, inside the mountain. The fort is exciting for young and old alike.
Every day that the museum is open, a tour of the fort is arranged where our guide retells its exciting history. The tour, inside and out, takes about an hour. You can even take the tour on your own with a portable audio guide (versions for both adults and children). Independent fort visitors pay an entrance fee in the youth hostel café.
